Azure FAQs

What's the difference between lift-and-shift vs. refactor?

Lift-and-shift (migrate as-is) is fast but may not optimize costs. Refactor redesigns for cloud — slower but often 40–60% cheaper long-term. We recommend a hybrid: lift-and-shift non-critical workloads quickly, refactor business-critical or expensive systems.

How long does an Azure migration take?

Depends on complexity. Simple migrations (10–20 VMs): 4–8 weeks. Complex (100+ VMs, databases, integrations): 3–6 months. We build in testing and validation time — no rushing production cutover.

What happens to our on-premises hardware?

Once migration is complete and validated, on-premises servers can be decommissioned or repurposed. We'll coordinate the timeline so there's no orphaned infrastructure.

Will Azure be more expensive than our current infrastructure?

Not if optimized. Most organizations spend less on Azure than on maintaining on-premises infrastructure (hardware, staff, power, cooling). We build cost optimization into the plan from day one.

Can we scale up or down quickly in Azure?

Yes — that's a major Azure advantage. Auto-scaling rules ramp resources up/down based on demand. Monthly costs fluctuate with usage, not fixed hardware.

Does Azure support our legacy applications?
